Globaltoday.id, Lumajang – 5Indonesian National Armed Forces soldiers from Battalion 527/Baladibya Yudha officially departed for Papua to carry out a border security mission along the Indonesia–Papua New Guinea frontier. The deployment reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining national stability, territorial security, and public safety in remote border regions.
A total of around 450 personnel from the RI–PNG Border Security Task Force of Yonif 527/BY were sent off during an official ceremony held at Pratu Natra Field, Battalion 527/Baladibya Yudha Headquarters in Lumajang on Saturday (May 9, 2026).
The farewell ceremony was attended by Indah Amperawati, regional officials, military leaders, and families of the soldiers who gathered to give support and prayers before the troops began their assignment.
Commander of Korem 083/Baladhika Jaya, Wahyu Ramadhanus Suryawan, said the border mission is not only about defense operations, but also about helping maintain social stability and supporting local communities in Papua.
He explained that the presence of the task force is important to strengthen cooperation between the military, local governments, security officers, and residents in border areas.
“The task force must work actively and build good coordination with all parties so that security and stability in the border region can be maintained,” he said during the ceremony.
He also emphasized that the assignment is a form of trust from the nation and the state toward the soldiers who are tasked with protecting Indonesia’s front-line territory.
Meanwhile, Lumajang Regent Indah Amperawati expressed appreciation and support for the soldiers who will serve in Papua. She encouraged the troops to maintain unity, discipline, and good communication with local communities.
“Build strong teamwork, cooperate with other security institutions, and respect local community leaders so the mission can run smoothly,” she told the soldiers.
She added that the soldiers’ service in border areas plays an important role in protecting national unity and ensuring people feel safe and protected.
The deployment of Yonif 527/BY also highlights a broader approach to border security, combining military protection with social communication and community engagement to strengthen peace and solidarity in Indonesia’s frontier regions.
