Globaltoday.id, Lumajang – The Government of Lumajang is taking firm and structured steps to build a cleaner and healthier bureaucracy. The effort focuses on strengthening supervision and education to prevent substance abuse among civil servants (ASN).
This move comes after an initial finding by law enforcement involving one civil servant suspected of misconduct. Responding quickly, Lumajang Regent Indah Amperawati emphasized the importance of immediate coordination and administrative action to ensure discipline is enforced properly.
“We want all civil servants to carry out their duties responsibly. That is why supervision and guidance must be strengthened,” she said on Thursday (April 30, 2026).
Internal Control and Early Detection
To improve the system, the Regent has instructed the inspectorate to carry out parallel internal inspections. This step aims to maintain proper governance while ensuring a clear and fair process for employee development.
At the same time, the local government has started gradual health checks for civil servants as part of early detection efforts. In the first phase, hundreds of employees have already taken part in the program.
“This is part of our effort to create a healthy working environment. We want our staff not only to be professional, but also aware of their well-being and surroundings,” she added.
Education and Prevention Approach
Lumajang Deputy Regent Yudha Adji Kusuma also supported the initiative, highlighting the importance of preventive and educational approaches.
“This program is not only about control, but also about guidance and education. It helps civil servants understand their responsibilities and maintain integrity in the long term,” he explained.
He also stressed the importance of collaboration across sectors to make prevention efforts more effective and comprehensive.
Toward a Professional and Trusted Government
In the future, the program will be expanded to all government departments, depending on budget readiness and priority needs. The local government will also strengthen coordination with related institutions to support wider prevention efforts.
Through these steps, Lumajang aims to build a bureaucracy that is not only professional, but also healthy, safe, and trusted by the public. The initiative also reflects a strong commitment to maintaining integrity in the face of growing social challenges.
