Globaltoday.id, Lumajang – Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ni Luh Puspa, expressed her amazement at the breathtaking beauty of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall during a working visit to Pronojiwo District, Lumajang Regency, East Java, on Sunday (June 29).
Accompanied by the Regent of Lumajang and the Head of the Tourism Office, the Deputy Minister arrived at the Tumpak Sewu area at around 07:30 AM, after departing from Hotel Gajah Mada. The visit was part of her itinerary before attending the cultural event Mystical of Kaliwungu Segoro Topeng later that same day.
> “Honestly, I’m amazed. This isn’t just an ordinary waterfall — it’s a masterpiece of nature. It truly deserves to be called the Niagara of Indonesia,” said Deputy Minister Ni Luh Puspa during an interview with local media at the site.
She believes that Tumpak Sewu holds great potential to be developed into a top-tier natural tourism destination, both nationally and internationally. According to her, the appeal of this destination lies not only in its stunning scenery but also in the adventurous experiences it offers.
> “Beyond its extraordinary views, the trekking paths, river exploration, and fresh air here provide a nature-based tourism experience that is in high demand — especially post-pandemic. This aligns well with our goal of promoting quality and sustainable tourism,” she added.
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister mentioned that the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will support the development of Tumpak Sewu through various strategic programs — including infrastructure improvement, local human resource training, digital promotion, and empowerment of village-based tourism economies.
> “I truly appreciate the involvement of local residents in managing tickets, homestays, and tour guide services. We are ready to support them with training, certification, and SME development,” she explained.
At the end of her visit, the Deputy Minister expressed hope that Tumpak Sewu would become an iconic natural destination for Indonesia — not only beautiful but also safe, comfortable, and sustainably preserved.
> “Let’s work together to protect the authenticity and sustainability of this area. And for all visitors, please come and enjoy it responsibly,” she concluded.
This visit also represents the central government’s commitment to advancing regional tourism based on local potential and direct community involvement.
